FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tee Times Now Available at Portland Public Golf’s Colwood Golf Center
Grand Opening of community golf course with innovative design set for June 20, 2015
Portland, Ore., April 20, 2015 – KemperSports and Portland Parks & Recreation announced today that tee times will be available at the newly-designed Colwood Golf Center on April 20. Tee times can be reserved at the 9-hole, par-3 course by calling (503) 254-5515 or by visiting www.colwoodgolf.com.
Working in partnership with The Trust for Public Lands, Portland Parks & Recreation acquired a portion of the former Colwood National Golf Course in 2014, and immediately began redeveloping the property into a unique asset for Portlanders. The grass-tee driving range opened last summer and has undergone continuous improvements. The driving range will be accompanied by the 1,200 yard layout that is designed to appeal to both experienced and novice players with large undulating greens, multiple tee options and two pin locations on each green leading multiple options for the wide variety of golfers.
“The goal of this project is to create a unique golfing experience – one that appeals to the ‘core’ golfers we already cater to at our other facilities, but also attract a new generation of golfers to enjoy the game and other forms of outdoor recreation,” says Portland Parks & Recreation Golf Manager and course architect John Zoller. “We want this to be a place where a low handicapper can have fun and feel challenged, while playing alongside his kids or friends who are also enjoying the course and the game of golf.”
The golf course will host a media preview event on May 15 and a grand opening ceremony June 20.
“We want to get some players on the course to determine how the new grass will tolerate the traffic, and we are also eager to get feedback on the design,” said Colwood General Manager Randy Morrison. “It’s a new concept, and we are excited to show it off.”
In addition to the golf course, Colwood National clubhouse still stands and is home to the Colwood Grill and Banquet Center. Both segments of the operation feature completely new menus and aim to serve golfers and non-golfers alike.
Colwood Golf Center will be the home of the First Tee of Greater Portland, with offices, programming and dedicated facilities on-site.
